It is a balance thing...

++++++++++

The Solstice is upon us.
That day where light and dark are split.
It is a balance thing...

It is the end of one cycles and the beginning of a new year. And as the days get longer leading up to this pinnacle, there is calm and excitement sharing the same space. What are you ready to leave behind as the moon suns herself in your presence? What are your goals, hopes, dreams for the days as the sun lingers longer? Time to hunker down, look inward and form the ideas of what is to manifest for the future. Time to plant the seeds.

{{The above tapestry honors the light + dark, the sun + moon, the day + night. Hand dyed with indigo with shibori patterning. Made with love and intention.}}

Trying to get a couple crocheted pendants in.
This one was a custom order, but I hope to have some more in the shop this fall!

We leave for California on Friday morning (at the crack of dawn)!
I am so excited, I can barely stand it!!!
Now I just have to get through the packing, my least favorite part of travel. I am a notorious over-packer, but I am working hard to keep it to a minimum...

I have a new tee shirt design in the shop...
On organic cotton!
Ooh-la-la!!!
Also, dyed some knee length, cotton skirts.
Indigo shibori.
They're in there too, one of each size (small through xl),
individually hand dyed, each one is one of a kind.
The best for romping around the forest,
to the beach or around town!
(Also in the SHOP.)

On that note:
I have my first fair and farmers' market of the season coming up.
Saturday is the Beverly Arts Fest and then the Beverly Farmers' Market on Monday.
Phew! It is sure to be a whirlwind.
I have been printing up a storm...
...And dyeing, organizing, creating cards, etc..
Lots 'o good stuff.

Glimpse into the Little Owl booth at the Beverly Farmers' Market.
Thanks to all that stopped by and an extra thanks to all that showed their support by buying something.
I appreciate you all!!!

From Nature, With Love...

I have been experimenting with collected wild flowers, berries and some other things.
Trying to get a range of color, finally off my indigo kick (I get like that with things, obsessed with a color, texture, shape, whatever...)

So far I am happy.

>>>>><<<<<

In order of photos:

1. Staghorn sumac (first bath)

2. Cochineal... Not wild harvested around here, color from little bugs, actually. But I wanted to play and see, the color is nice, but not sure if I will continue with this as a dye other than playing around here and there.

3. Tansy (yellow) over-dyed with indigo to achieve the green.

4. Same as #3, but dipped the whole scarf.

5. From bottom to top: First 3 are staghorn sumac (1st, 2nd and 3rd dip in the same bath), tansy, tansy/indigo, cochineal (first dip), cochineal (second dip), last 2 cochineal/indigo.

6. Scraps from above scarves sitting atop a sumac scarf

>>>>><<<<<

Do you do any natural dyeing?
I would love to hear about it!

>>>>><<<<<

I am hoping to have a couple of the scarves in the shop by the end of the weekend.
So check HERE later!

Some super-duper awesome new scarves in the future!
How can you resist the face in the last photo, right?
She kills me!

Weekend in photos

This weekend has been both a whirlwind and slow as molasses at the same time. If that can even make sense. I have been diving head first into the indigo bath (if you can't tell, ha!). I think I am doing a study in blue, I can't get enough indigo! I'm trying to get myself together and ready for my first fair of the season. I will be set up in Somerville at Assembled next Saturday.

It is most definitely spring now. Everything seems to be lusciously bursting into bloom and I swoon! We went for a nice walk around the resevoire on the edge of the woods today, everything is neon! The green of freshly unfurling leaves and buds popping open is so healing, don't you think? I am finding myself inspired.
What is inspiring you these days?

I want to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all you mamas out there and to all you mama's to be, friends, aunties, grandmothers... You, who have offered love, support and guidance at some point or another. You are loved and appreciated!

Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Sunday!
Happy spring!

Puppy Play and Indigo Day.

Today started off grey and in a fog and after this morning where I almost turned into the hulk because one of my projects just isn't turning out the way I had hoped and after hours of trying to get things to where I can move on from there, I decided I needed to stop working on that project and move onto another that would make me more positive and put me in a better mood...

It seems all the animals wanted to help me with my dying.

How could you not be at least somewhat distracted by this face?

All of the scarves that I dyed seem to be coming out perfectly!
(I am knocking on wood as I type this statement!)
My jar full of the indigo bath seems to be getting exhausted, so it seems like a good time to take a break as I wait for it to revive.

What projects have you been working on?

p.s. all these photos are from my Instagram.
