With the weather being so wet and fairly warm, there is a plethora of mycological activity happening in the woods! It's like a mushroom party and I have has fun exploring and finding them! Now if only I was better at identification... Feel free to comment if you know any of these. I know there are some turkey tail in there and possibly some reishi, but besides that I probably should try to look them up in my guide!
Anyway, happy Sunday!
2 and 3 are honey mushrooms not bad eating, not amazing
ReplyDelete5 Hercium spp. VERY edible
6 and 8 stinkhorns
7 and 9 look like chicken of the woods or maitake.
yay! thank you potter :)
ReplyDeletei definitely wonder about the ones you think might be chicken of the woods or maitake... they are on the ground near a really damp area and i feel like they have a bit of growing left to do, which might help id them better.
that big crazy coral white thing (#6) on the tree is edible and good, as i understand. can't remember the name just now, will look up later at home. #11 i am pretty sure is a dye polypore, phaeolus schweinitzii.
ReplyDeletelooks like you are doing some fun exploring, although i'm glad you are getting lots of opinions before eating anything. i have picked chanterelles loads of times but last night a lot of my dinner came back up - still not sure if it was them or something else, or if there was one in the batch that was masquerading as a chanty, or... and of course there are lots of worse things that could have happened to me. made me a little shy on foraging all of a sudden.
MY MY MY SOME I'VE NEVER SEEN IN MY MANY OLD AGE YEARS. JUST LOVE YOUR BLOG
ReplyDeletethank you annonymous :)
