Spring Snowboarding

This weekend was the last weekend for snowboarding up at Bolton Valley.
So we made sure to take advantage, especially since our friend are moving to Maine and won't be working there anymore.
(Safe and easy moving, guys!)
We had 3 days of different spring skiing.

Friday was raining at the house, but snowing and foggy at the mountain. The snow was soft, but sticky.

Saturday was BEAUTIFUL! You couldn't ask for a better day of Spring skiing. It was sunny and warm (like 50 degrees warm). There was a traditional pond skimming contest which is always fun.

*For those of you who don't know what this is, it is a spring skiing sport where people (usually dressing in a costume or not much of anything at all) try to ski or snowboard across a pond. Obviously the goal is to make it to the other side, but oh the hilarity of watching the people who completely bite it!*

Say hi to Dave, a man of many talents, pond skimmer safety extraordinaire!
(and our friend who is nice enough to let us crash at their house and give us passes to snowboard at Bolton) How fab is that suit!?! He is like an orange Gumbi!

Sunday started off a bit rough.
It was overcast and the snow had somewhat frozen overnight making it tough to see and ski on. There were some serious "death cookies" to avoid, but as the day went on and as people skied on the trails the snow softened up. It was super sticky and harder to snowboard on, but so much fun!

I am already ready to go snowboarding again.
We have been very lucky to be able to go as much as we have, but it just won't be the same at Bolton without our friends there! And as much as I am ready for warmer weather and green things poking their little sproutiness out of the dirt, I am not ready to be done snowboarding for the season.
However, we have been thinking of moving to somewhere along the coast of Maine, so now we can start taking trips up to start checking out where me might like to live...

Bolton Valley

We spend the weekend visiting friends, enjoying lots of fresh powder and snowboarding in the woods at Bolton Valley in Vermont.

It was amazing, I am so glad we could make it!
There is nothing like being out all day in the snow, surrounded by beautiful nature and feeling like you are flying as you weave through the trees...
There is nothing like coming home sufficiently tired and blissfully sore from having a grand old time and sleeping like a baby!
There is nothing like spending the end of the day with good friends laughing hysterically and knowing that you get to do it all over again the next day!
Snowboarding is one of the many loves in my life...

*****

While we were there, our friends ran out of gas for the heater so we had to rely on space heaters.

This led to our "indoor fort" of which I turned out to be to foreman, directing construction.
They live in a space that is very open and not insulated very well, so we created a room within a room with tarps and then ran the heaters in there.
Nice and toasty.
(Albeit, not very safe. Don't worry, we didn't leave the heaters unattended)

It was a great time.
I hope to get some more boarding in before the end of the season!

Just arrived home from a long weekend of snowboarding with the bf.
We sort of forgot that it was a holiday weekend, therefore didn't quite anticipate all the people that would be enjoying the mountain with us, but we sure had a wonderful time!
We visited friends and then went riding all day and even at night (which I had only done once before on a smaller mountain).
We even had some fun laughing at old ski suits...
Who ever thought a one piece was a good idea?!?
(really wishing he actually rocked that bad boy in daylight!)

The sunset from the lift and top of the mountain was so beautiful, we could see all the way to Burlington!

Such a good weekend!
I kind of wish we were still there.

How was your weekend?

Cabin Porn...

Good morning.
Did my post title intrigue you...?

Have you seen this website?
Well, Go!
Immediately!
But be warned, you might swoon just a bit...

***

I always wanted to live on top of a mountain
where you could only reach my abode by hiking or helicopter.
I envisioned a rocky, craggy and steep mountain pass that was all mine,
I also envisioned a cool home made elevator system that is basically a basket with rope on a pull system like that of a tree fort (not so realistic for if I were to ever live in said mountain top dwelling, but hey, dreams are dreams).
And I would give anything to have a wood-fired hot tub,
I do believe that is the epitome of amazing.

***

Anyway, I am listening to this on this rainy late January morning while sipping ginger tea with lemon and honey.
It is perfect right now.
(You can hear more of them here.)

I am headed to Vermont tonight.
I am so excited to go snowboarding!
Aaaand, the x-games started yesterday, WOOO-HOOO!!!
I don't have tv, but you can be sure I will try to catch some, if not all of it online.

I hope you all have a totally blissed out Friday and an amazing weekend!
Hugs all around
xo

back from holiday

So, after 4 days of snowboarding with my sister, we are home.
(and of course, I have a cold)
...
It was so nice to go with her since it has been many years since we have gone together.
The first day we went up the sky was amazing and the light was perfect.
We were supposed to go night skiing, but when we got there (thursday night) we found out it started friday. We were quite disappointed, but at least I got so good photos along the way!

...The Church in Sugar Hill...

~~~Setting Sun~~~
These were some of the sunset shots that I got while we were on our way to attempt night skiing on Thursday night...
These pictures are worth the wasted drive!
The light was amazing! I didn't have to do anything, it was hitting everything just right and the white mountains were yellow peach colored!
...
It was like a fantasy world and almost didn't seem real...
So instead we headed into town to get some food and stumbled across a couple of consignment shops!
Let the Thrifting begin!
...
These coats were crazy! We just had to play around...
We are still trying to figure out what kind of fur the coat Amory tried on was...
...
I had a wonderful score, I found a rockin' sweater in blue.
To be accompanied by a cute leaf pin for $2...
And this awesome silver bracelet for $5
(this is what was stamped out on the inside in 2 opposite places, I like the hidden hearts!)
...And lastly, this cool scarf, I love the bold pattern in black in white! And it is SO soft!
So we did actually get some skiing in.
And we did get to go night skiing, which neither of us have ever done and it was SO much fun!!!
We left a little early on sunday because the car we borrowed to go up with had headlight malfunctions and we only had high beams.
It worked out though because it ended up being really windy...
(I mean REALLY windy, it was nuts)
On either side of the mountain was a gigantic cloud swirling and looming devilishly above us.
It looked like a huge tsunami cloud and continued to just churn and churn and blow down the mountain...
....BRRRR....
(you can't see it in this picture, but to the left is completely black and the direction the swirl is coming from, kind incredible and scary)
And that is mostly it...
Maybe I will go again next year, it was fun to do for my birthday!
(good work out for my legs, too!)
