Little Owl Adventures

This weekend (well, this week, actually) has been all about being together and going on adventures.
Wednesday was Mu's 1st Birthday! I can't believe our little puppy is so big now!!!

We found a new part of the Greenbelt to explore and so we went adventuring.
It was rather nice out once we really got moving so I ended up shedding my jacket and donned (one of) my Little Owl sweatshirts... Perfect comfort and warmth for such a day of exploring.

Today I will be getting ready, packing and dropping Poe off at the "bird sitter" (thanks Pam and Rick!) before heading out early tomorrow morning for MAINE!!! I am so excited.
Not only will we be way up north, along the coast, we will be in an area I have never been!
See, I told you this week was all about adventures!

What are your plans this weekend?

Yeesh! It has been a while, eh?...

WARNING:
This is an extremely image heavy post.

I was fully intending on doing a little post,
but week after week went by and, well, here we are.

I have been trying to balance working and taking a little break... Ha!
We have been adventuring and snuggling and knitting and imagining...

I have been starting to draw up ideas for new prints.
And am bringing in a new style tee shirt (soft organic cotton!).
There are some new things in the SHOP,
as well as some things on SALE!

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday
and a crazy, fantastic start to the New Year!
(any resolutions?)

<<<<<>>>>>

This weekend we will be venturing up to Maine,
to the lower, coastal Down East area (Mt. Desert/Bar Harbor). I'm pretty pumped.
We will be visiting friends and my sister for my Birthday.

It is the big 3-0!

I have to admit, I am not quite sure how I feel about it.
I don't really think I care all that much, but feel like I should do something grand...
(Any suggestions?)

<<<<<>>>>>

Hopefully soon after we get back I will have some new designs ready to put in the shop, but until then I am excited to be in the wilderness and visiting farms, teaching Mu that chickens are not food or toys to be chased and seeing how Margaret feels about them...
I am excited for hiking and lazing and exploring new towns (and yes, in the back of our minds we will be taking mental notes on areas in the running for our move).

...So...
What have Y'all been up to?

Things to do on a rainy Sunday

We (unintentionally... thanks loud neighbors) woke up pretty darn early on Sunday.
Not that I really mind being up early, but it was clear that we couldn't even just lay about and snuggle.
So we rose, dressed and tried to make a plan.
Originally that plan was to go to the flea market, but since it was so rainy we didn't think anyone would really be there...
So here's what happened instead:

1. Farm visits: stopped at the local orchard farm store for cider donuts and hot mulled cider.

2. popped over to another farm store that sells dairy to check and see if they had any heavy cream. They did and I rejoiced accordingly! (homemade butter and whipped cream, here I come!)

3. Took a little walk/hike.

4. Drove down a road that was beyond beautiful. Just to see.

5. Stopped at another barn where the bf's aunt has her horse. He is 33! Sweetest horse you ever will meet and we had promised him the day before we would come back with apples and carrots for him.
He was very happy. And drooly ;)

5. Once we were home we marinaded the meat we had gotten at the farm the day before for dinner. Then we cleaned and started some chicken soup from the leftover carcass from dinner the night before.
Best. Chicken soup. EVER!
(recipe will have to be in the next post)

6. Also made fresh thyme drop biscuits.

And that was what we did on Sunday.
Oh, and caught the new episode of Alaska: the final frontier.
Yep. Good day.

What do you like to do on rainy Sundays?

Evolution

I don't have many words to share today.
Even though I have said this, there are is a whole verbal dialogue going on in my head.
It just doesn't feel like coming out.

Anyway, this is what my eyes saw the other day.
I am off to go for a walk with Veda and a friend.

What did your eyes see today?

the great cranberry adventure: part 3

When we finally made our way back into the dunes towards the bog (and realized at that point, even though it was far, we didn't have to go quite as much further as we had anticipated), I had noticed so many beautiful textures.
The plover had made lacy tracks all over the dunes, berries and sticks that had dropped and were being covered back up, flowers and grasses that had gone past, were dried and standing still like a painting...

We found the right trail!
And when we got to the bog, we immediately got to collecting.
(Did I mention that not many people know of this bog? It's kind of like a secret...)
It amazed me how many cranberries can grow on these little tiny bushes that are so low to the ground.

We were trying to get as many as possible before we had to go.
We each managed to scoop up enough to mostly fill a 1 gallon freezer bag full and then decided the rest would have to wait for another day. (plus we were worried about being caught with the dogs since we were breaking the rules)

The walk back was definitely long, but warm and beautiful.
I can't believe how early the sun starts setting these days.
By 2 o'clock, I felt like it was 5:30!
I think the total trip was about 5 miles and if you have ever hiked in sand, you know it feels like at least double that!

So, the moral of the story goes like this:

Take the boat.

Just kidding.
Although we might take the skiff next time, if I were to walk in again, I would remember to bring food and water in my backpack instead of filling it up with layers I think I might need but don't. And of course, I always have to leave room for treasures picked up along the way, not to mention all the cranberries we pick!

This ended up being a 4 or 5 hour adventure and I had only eaten a scone for breakfast.
It was a good thing the orchard was open on the way home, I was starving!
I don't ever think a rustic meal of apple, cheese and bread with cider ever tasted so good!

So, any of you have any good adventures you want to share?
I love a good adventure tale!
