Little Owls

I finally got some owls into the shop!

And there will be a few more coming today...

These little guys are really special!

I get all the wool locally- raw!

Much of it comes from sheep that were rescued,

they now live in a great home

and are very well fed and have had a happy, long life!

I spend a lot of time preparing the fiber.

This means I pick it clean and wash it,

then after it has dried,

I do all they dyeing myself with a non-toxic acid dye

(which means that I use vinegar as a mordant).

Next the wool is ready for felting.

I use a felting needle to sculpt these little hoots to life.

Each one is different,

one of a kind...

They all have their own personality

and are very sweet!

Also, each one has a big heart on its chest,

and a string attached so that he can hang in a special place

if you don't want him sitting out on a counter...

And they make great gifts, too!

(*hint: easter, mother's day, graduation, just because...)

I HAVE POWER!!!

Today I am trying to get ready for the holiday fair I am in that is tomorrow and saturday!

I was going to try to work on some things last night, but we lost power due to the high winds!

It was so warm yesterday, and windy, it was crazy!

I was really sad that we lost power, though, because Poesy and I were supposed to have an ichat with Danielle and the lovely Flojo from Dinosaur Toes...

I was so excited because it was going to our first "meeting" (and my first time using ichat).

Since I live in Mass and Danielle lives in Virginia, it is the next best thing to actually meeting in person!

But alas, it was not meant to be last night!

So, hopefully soon!!!

So now, before I dive into the realm of work and fiber and felt, I wanted to share the few little owls that I just posted in my shop.

These little cuties are so fun and soft!

They make great gifts and I have added a bit of thread from my collection of vintage threads so they can be hung as ornaments!!!

New Little Owls

Just finished this basket full of felted owls! There are 20 in all. It all started with the "raw" wool... Then cleaning, carding, felting, etc...
