Lanesville Music Fest

This past weekend I was set up at a local music fest.

It was a great time all around, great music, great people!

The last 2 weeks...

Ok so this is way over-due, but none the less....

The last 2 weeks have been a whirlllllll!!!!

Last week we were at Gathering Of The Vibes in Bridgeport, CT. (the Puppets, that is).

This dragonfly was HUGE! It got stuck under the sail we had up and was tired from trying to get out... Don't worry, he made it out safely!

I finally got a glow hoop this summer and have been totally psyched to spin at night!

...

Then when we got home I was reminded of the Sidewalk Days here in Fishtown...

(I have photos of the rest of the week, but for some reason my camera does not want to cooperate and won't let me upload anything... BOOO!!!)

That was 3 days of vending by myself and although I couldn't go far from my booth it was a much needed outcome!!!!

WOOOHOOO!!!

So that is some $$$ towards the car that I now need to find...

I also harvested my garlic last week, I am pretty excited about that.

Home grown garlic far surpasses anything you will buy in a store!

I have also been harvesting elderberries, thyme, oregano and a few other things here and there...

Now we are counting down the days (there are like 2 left before we leave) until Be Here Now up at Harry's Hill in Maine.

It is a real bummer not having a car, especially when we have a festival to be at since that means renting a vehicle.

That part is totally sucky... And expensive!!!

Anyways, that has been my past two weeks.

I think I also have to work on making more things for the next shows, since my stock is low now from the Sidewalk Days!

A bit about Nateva...

This is Frank... Probably one of our most popular puppets (with our friend Sylvana).

ok, it has been a while. I am feeling so fried from this past week! First we went to Nateva, which was great,except the security and staff had awful communication and gave us a really difficult time! Other than that, I was so excited to see the Flaming Lips play! I even got to meet Wayne Coyne (lead singer) and most of the band back stage... We told him how much we enjoyed his music and that we would love to do puppets for the show and invited him to our big tent to check them out.... He came back later (and of course I wasn't there so everyone got a photo but me!) and loved the puppets, supposedly, and said a couple could come one stage!!!!!


Well, that didn't happen. Apparently the security didn't know anything about it and we really mean a shoved Andy. What JERKS!!! I am a little confused also because some other girls that were at our tent (not with us) got passes to go on as dancers for the show! So I ask, WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??? We didn't get a pass...

Anyways, I was still happy to meet him and just hoping that he isn't a complete jerk and lying to us...

Other than that, I have been trying to rest and working a lot gardening (which is awful in this heat). I was so happy to have to work, only to lose the money to my car because I bumped a curb at the grocery store and busted my radiator. Totally sucky!

I am waiting to get my car back today, I guess it was a bit of a sign that I needed to take a break. I was so tired from being in crowds and vending and yelling for tips and helping the puppets and hoola hooping and being hot... It is completely exhausting being around thousands and thousands of people for days!

So, what have you all been up to? I am wondering what type of things you guys are interested in, or what you would like to know about.... I am trying to make my blog more interesting, so let me know!!!

Part 2: Harry's Hoe Down

So the second part of last week was Harry's Hoe Down.

After a bed and a roof and kitchen and shower at the cabin,

we headed to Harry's Hill for the festival.

It was a nice drive, we passed beautiful forests, lakes and amazing skies!

I have to say, I am obsessed with clouds and Maine has some of the most amazing skies...

This weekend cloud watching was exemplary!

Anyways, I am not going to ramble as much on this post, so I will just show photos...

He was sooo cute! and so smart and well behaved, but boy is he going to be BIG!

His father was 260 lbs. and mom was 190 lbs.

Anyway, Zara and Baby G were all too happy to cuddle him and keep him company while he napped!

Part 1: A week on the road starts in China... Maine

Wow! It has been a long week on the road.

But now we are home and super tired but we get a week and a half with the "kids" (a.k.a. dogs and bird) before we are off to the next engagement...

This past week was crazy busy, but overall lots of fun!

We left Tuesday for China, ME. where we were to meet friends and spend a couple of nights at a cabin on China Lake before our school performance the next day.

Of course, we left waaaay later than I wanted to and we also got lost trying to find the place (the first of many wrong turns), but we made it and were so happy we did!

This cabin (that slept 6) was great!

I wish I thought to take pictures of the inside because it was beautiful. All new with wood pannel, a loft and 2 bedrooms!

It was our friend, Jenn's, birthday, so her sister came along also.

We got there and they wanted to catch the Celtics game at a sports barn a couple of towns over.

I am not a sports person, but they said there was pinball so I thought, "what the heck?!?" and we decided to join them.

Sadly, there was no pinball and the Celtics lost by the way, booo!

We didn't even finish watching the game, it was that bad...

And of course, we got lost on the way home, too!

...

The next day was our school performance which was a CRAZY mixup from the start...

Our friends we stayed in the cabin with were also performing there as well and it seemed like everyone had a different idea of what was going on.

It was a really busy day, but we all worked together and it all worked out!

That night we really appreciated being in that lovely cabin.

We really wanted to stay another day and thought we might because the next day it was raining pretty hard and it would have been a nightmare to set up for the festival (which was an hour away) in the rain.

The rain stopped though and that was our sign to get on the move to our next destination.

And that story is for tomorrow!

Frank the Pirate

Frank the Pirate (Andy in the puppet) with our friends from the Scallywags, Mad Jenny (Jenn Bliss) and Jason Berube at the Celebration of the Sea Festival that happened today in E. Gloucester at the Eastern Point Day School...

Today started off with a bang.

I mean, literally, there was crazy thunder and lightening!

We thought we were rained out, but they didn't call the little festival and although we were all grouchy, we went anyway.

Well, it turned out that it was hot and sunny until the festival was about over when we learned of a severe storm warning (with a tornado watch so I hear).

So we pack up a little early and got out of there just in time!

All in all it was pretty fun and the kids were great.

And they loved my little owls which makes me happy!

So far the storm warning seems like it might drift out to sea,

it did thunder and rain a little when we got home, but now it is sunny again.

So it was a good day!

Home from Strange Creek

Ok, we had a great weekend at Strange Creek...

I first want to start off with the fact that I have fallen head over heels, madly in love with this band:

They are freaking amazing live!

Ok, so that's that...

Next, the festival...

Strange Creek was great, we had beautiful, if not hot, whether,

but it was nice because there was a pool (I did not go in) and a stream (I adored) to cool off in.

The campground was beautiful and it was PACKED!!!

There were tents everywhere and anywhere possible.

We got there later than we planned and had to grab the first available spot for the puppet tent,

but after we were all set up and relaxing for a moment the people next to us tried to pull some bullshit about us being there...

Basically they wanted as much space as possible and didn't want to share and were being crabby and selfish.

Luckily that resolved itself for the most part and we didn't have to move, which would have been a huge pain in the ass with so much stuff!

(like the big tent and all the puppets and gear and whatnot...)

I set up my shop kind of in the front, but I need to make a sigh because I don't think people really knew it was a shop.

It is so hard to help coordinate puppets and run the shop at the same time.

I did make a little money, though not as much as I would have liked or needed,

but some which I am thankful for!

Anyways, there were a bunch of our friends that came and have fun with us.

Some of them we haven't seen in a while,

like last year,

so it was really great to see them!!!

I wish I had my own camera, but I forgot mine and my phone was dying so I had to rely on friends for their photos...

One of the things we were hired to do was the new little puppet show "Flora and the Magic Seeds" which basically was rained out because 3/4 of the way through it started to rain.

We tried again inside, but were interrupted by a crazy lady (literally) who said there was a huge storm coming and we had to go into the main cabin immediately,

then she proceeded to flick the lights a bunch and yelled "NOW!" and ran off with some of the audience in tow...

So that didn't quite work out as planned, but Andy and the guys helping stayed to play with the kids and make up songs about skittles and peanut butter cup icecream...

I think they enjoyed it.

So now we are home and temporarily switching gears for the little festival we are doing locally this weekend.

I'll tell ya, it sure is hard to go from preparation for a festival to being at one and working your ass off and having a good time to being back home and going back in to prep mode...

That is where I am at now, trying to make some more things to sell this weekend.

Hopefully it doesn't get rained out!
